You’ll often hear the phrase passed around the web that in order to succeed online “you need a list”.
Now generally when people say that they’re referring to an email list, and don’t get me wrong email lists are certainly very important.
However I personally believe there’s another list that ranks even higher in counting towards the success of your online business.

…and the list is I’m referring to is none other than a to-do list.
Now some of you might think I’m crazy, but if you’re reading this & you’ve spent a fair length of time working online then you’ll no doubt realize just how important a to-do list is, and the massive growth it can create for your business.
(and by the way, yes you did just hear me right – a to-do list can create growth in your business).
You see working online is fun, and for many it’s a dream lifestyle. The ability to generate an income from the comfort of your home (or anywhere around the world for that matter) and not having a “boss” to answer to is an amazing feeling…
However whilst is all sounds great in theory, working online is a BIG lifestyle switch, and that’s mainly due to the fact of no longer having a “boss” to answer to.
You see when you’re you run your own business, whether it be online or offline, you are in full control of your success. In a job you’re paid what your boss wants to pay you, but when you run your own business your earnings are uncapped – if you want to make $100,000 a month then there’s nothing stopping you but yourself.
I’d actually go as far as to say that the “becoming successful” part is pretty damn easy, but motivating yourself & getting 110% output (consistently) – that’s where things get a little tricky… But even more so when you work online.
There’s no “magic” to creating a successful business, especially not online – anybody can do it, but what separates those who succeed from those who fail is the action they take.
Let’s take blogging as an example. I know for a fact that if somebody today decided to start blogging, and published a new post every day consistently for the next year that at that point they would be in a position to make good money from their blog. Generating an income online isn’t hard, it’s just not everybody is willing to do what it takes.
That’s because when you work online you’ll most likely be working from your own home, where you’ll be surrounded by a massive amount of distractions. Whether it be your wife, husband, kids, the TV, or even the fridge (that’s usually my main one – heh) it can be hard to stay focused and actually get things done.

That’s the reason you need a to-do list – to squeeze every last bit of productivity out of yourself and most importantly, make sure you get stuff done. Remember, now that you’re “boss” free nobody else is going to tell you do it – it’s up to you to make it happen.
You see back before I started giving myself a to-do list I thought I was doing okay.
Well I guess in the sense of the word I was doing “okay”, but that was my problem – I was only doing “okay” when I could have been doing so much more. Only I didn’t realize that until it was too late.
…and believe me there’s nothing worse than realizing what you could have had, after it’s gone.
I was totally lax in my business, I was happy with my income so I was doing the bare minimum that was required to keep things ticking over… BIG mistake.
But thankfully it’s how you treat your mistakes that matters, and I learned from it (albeit a sharp learning curve!).
So now one of the most important tasks I undergo in my business is compiling a to-do list for each day, which allows me to manage my time effectively & get more done.
Plus, my to-do list lets me keep track of things because as a human being I’m forgetful. Without my to-do list I’d forget to complete countless amounts of tasks, which albeit small add up and contribute massively to the bigger picture.
The other thing it helps me to do is segregate my tasks, rather than trying to do a bit of everything all at once I’ll stick to focusing on one task at a time.
So as daft as it may sound take it from me that creating a daily to-do list will really help you begin scaling up your business and most importantly getting stuff done.
Therefore if you’re not already compiling one, now is the time to start. You’ll be shocked at how something so “stupid” can have such a big impact on your business.
